Celtic Earrings

Celtic art is a spiritual art, representing a deep belief in spirit and nature. The Celtic universe held seven beings created by gods and spirits: humankind, insects, plants, fish, reptiles, birds and animals. But portraying these beings - holy works of a holy creator - in representative ways was forbidden, so they were instead made stylized and abstract. The art of the matriarchal Celtic tribes is known for interlaced spirals, knots, labyrinths, mazes, step patterns and crosses. Some miniature works are so fine they were thought to have been made by angels. Artists often left their work unfinished, as proof of human imperfection and denial of the work's divinity.
