When you donate money to these "charities", your money goes towards experiments/torture. Here is an example of one of the many examples:
sewing newborn kittens' eyes shut (to show that depriving them of normal vision hinders brain development - already a well-known fact. How about giving nicotine, cocaine and other substances to pregnant animals - despite the fact that their harmful effects are already well-known from human clinical studies.
